Case studies
Binnacle steering
These are tricky units to dismantle and adjust. Through the course of a major re-fit project, this 1968 vessel had the original unit still in place, but it required to be removed for painting in the cockpit, overhauled and re-instated. Not only was the work removing what could be seen, however, below the cockpit sole, the dismantling and alterations required were significant.
Air conditioning
This unit had been playing the owner up for some time and yet no one could understand why. Tracing it down to an electrical fault, the investigations began. Piecing together other factors such as electrical shocks from the rigging every now and then to the crew, our electricians isolated it to one side of the vessel, and finally to the fit out of the vessel being placed upont the supply cable to the unit.
Bow thrusters
More and more we are being asked to retro fit bow thrusters, and on this one, it was part of a major refurbishment to the vessel. Key considerations here are the power of the unit required versus the distance from the power source and space available to install. This unit fitted was a Side Power units with duo props for maximum effectiveness with little power loss. Boat length was 56 foot.
New engine installation
As the main agents for Perkins, Vetus and Bukh, we are installation agents for all of the engines with our engineers manufacturers trained for installations and repairs. We are unique in our ability to not be tied to any particular model and have an engineering team of five engineers permanently working on all units makes. This unit was one of two Mermaid 325hp units we installed as part of a re-fit.
