sand blasting hull

Sandblasting the hull of a vessel will remove the build-up of antifoul and expose the gel coat. A mix of sand and water is sprayed onto the hull at high pressure, removing all layers of antifouling enabling a complete inspection of the hull for blistering and any other damage that may affect the integrity of the hull.

Once right back to the gel coat, the hull will be as smooth as when it left the mould.

Treatment

The fully clean hull will be coated with epoxy Gel Shield 200 to act as a protective layer between the gelcoat and the antifoul paint and help the paint to stick.

On top of the Gel Shield a hard antifouling is applied to act as a tie for the next layer of treatment; antifouling or copper coating.

Improvements

Having such a smooth hull is important to the hydrodynamics of a vessel. Making it more slippery through the water allows for improved hull speeds when sailing and more efficient fuel economy when motoring.
