Originally the most westerly Naval Dockyard and victualling station in England, then home of HMS Ganges and the Packet ships and centre for the French Resistance during the Second World War, Mylor, now home to the last fleet of Oyster fishing boats under sail, is a haven for water-lovers of all types, whether you enjoy crabbing with the children off the pontoon, cruising local waters or racing further offshore.
2011 saw the opening of the brand new Mylor Yacht Club building costing over £1million to build and incorporating the Cafe and Windsport shop. Alongside this construction there is a new shower block for berth holders and visitors to the harbour and the lower car park has being raised by 1m to prevent the high water flooding disrupting operations.
On the marina there have been brand new service bollards installed to ensure a safe and reliable electrical supply and water for all berths. There are also hoses on the marina for boat owners to use after they were removed three years ago due to the risk of contamination of the water supply. We now have our own borehole at the harbour and because of this we were able to reinstate the hoses.
The improvement programme at Mylor has been done in prepartion for its role as a training camp for the 2012 Olympics and for the future of the harbour and its businesses.
