Mylor Yacht Club's new building 21/1/2011At the end of the summer season 2010 there was a big change down at the harbour as the old Cafe and Windsport building was knocked down to make way for the larger, modern structure incorporating Mylor Yacht Club.
The builders have been onsite nearly every day and do not seem to mind too much if it is snowing or pouring with rain and have even had to deal with a few hail storms! They have had every type of weather thrown at them and still, just before Christmas, they managed to get the sides of the building up and were ready to start on the roof.
Devon Contractors are working closely with Vickery Holman and Roger Graffy to recreate the designs that are a few decades away from the surrounding buildings but that still, somehow, seem to be sympathetic towards the classic styles and make the utmost of the harbour and its amazing views.
There will be a balcony area above the newly fitted Cafe and Windsport shop where members and guests can have a drink whilst taking in an amazing elevated view of the Western side of the harbour and, for a little while, their old clubhouse situated on the end of the 200 year old quay.
The yacht club have seen their membership raise to over 700, confirming just how important this building is for the future of the club. Gone are the days of the intimate Yacht Club Panto where the audience takes an active part in the performance whether they like it or not-although I am sure the cast will make it bigger and better than ever!
