Free Spirit Reveals Her Winter Face Lift

Free Spirit, a 10m Aquabell Sports Cruiser belonging to AK Wildlife Cruises, emerged from our workshops last week after her winter face lift. We think you’ll agree that she’s looking fantastic for the coming busy sea safari season.

The topside repaint has a mirror finish and the new decals and dolphin detail look great against the new, very fetching, aquamarine blue.

Free Spirit’s winter maintenance programme started on our blast pad where her underwater section was sand blasted by our GRP technicians. After moving into the big workshop, her topsides were then sanded, removing any surface imperfections and then filled and faired to a smooth finish.

The paint to her topsides was expertly applied by our skilled painter ‘Burley’ using a spray gun. The waterline was reinstated along with the cove lines and the name and dolphin decals applied. Her waterline was antifouled to complete the look.

As well as the aesthetics, Free Spirit had some additional works completed by every department of our Marine Team that included engineering, electrical, shipwrights and GRP teams in readiness for the new season. This included the replacement of her fuel tank, a full stern gear overall, realignment of the P bracket, new cutlass bearings and a flow coat treatment applied to the deck for added grip.

The experienced yard team were then responsible for taking Free Spirit out of hibernation from the work shop, into the hoist and into the water, where she slept for one night on the marina before heading off home.

We look forward to seeing the many fantastic photos of wildlife spotted on Captain Keith’s Sea Safaris.
