Falmouth Week 2017

Friday, 4 August, 2017 - Sunday, 13 August, 2017

We are one of the many proud sponsor’s of Falmouth Week each year which is such a fantastic event not to be missed whether you’re a local or visitor to Cornwall!

Originally started as a sailing regatta dating back to 1837, the event has grown into the largest sailing regatta in the south west with more than 450 yachts racing over eight days along with a lively programme of shore side events for land lubbers too.

Overlooking the third deepest natural harbour in the world and surrounded by the picturesque beauty of the Carrick Roads waterways, Roseland Peninsula and South Cornish coastline, Falmouth’s amphitheatre-like setting is the ideal locale for visitors to enjoy the spectacle.

As well as sponsoring the event we also sponsor the Sunbeam Class in the Carrick Fleet races which take place in the lower estuary, an area some 2 miles long by 1 mile wide – and, weather permitting, may also venture a short distance outside the harbour mouth, beyond Black Rock.

Each day of the Regatta, apart from Wednesday which is when the prestigious Champagne Race is held, one of the local sailing or yacht clubs will host a day of sailing. providing teas and other refreshments followed by presentation prizes. Family and friends of competitors will be most welcome at the club while racing is in progress.

Monday 7th August is hosted by our friends at Mylor Yacht Club who will be putting on one of their delicious BBQ’s and prize giving from 4pm onwards!

Not to be missed:

  • Wed 9th August 6.15pm: A display from the he famous Red Arrows over Falmouth Bay is a spectacle not to be missed from either on land or on the water. Get a great vantage point from Trefusis Point between Mylor and Flushing, along the coastal footpath accessible from Mylor Yacht Harbour>
  • Sun 13th August Events Square, Dragon Boat Racing time: Watch the spectacular Dragon boat race which seas a bunch of 40ft traditional Chinese style boats powered by up to 16 people with paddles – its all very serious.
Mylor yacht Harbour will be entering a team again this year having narrowly missed out on first place last year.
