Boat Insurance Repairs

Accidents happen from time to time, but organising repairs and claiming on your boat insurance doesn’t have to be a stressful experience.

Research shows that storm damage, and hitting an underwater object, are amongst the top 5 reasons for boat insurance claims. And while collisions with other vessels, onboard fires and vandalism are considerably less common, it’s reassuring to know that our Marine Team have the experience and skills to get you back out on the water as soon as possible, whatever happens.

Our full service boatyard and marine services division are perfectly placed to handle your boat insurance repairs from start to finish. We’ll work closely with you, your insurance company and the appointed yacht surveyor at every stage, completing the work to the incredibly high standards that we’re renowned for.

With all the resources you might need in one place, including onsite rigging services and a friendly Yacht Surveyor, you can have complete confidence that your boat is in the very best hands.

Read on to find out more about what to do if you have a boat accident or experience damage either in Cornwall or further afield, and see how ‘Baja‘ and ‘Arrow‘ were returned to their former glory following devastating onboard fires.

What to do if your boat gets damaged

Whether it’s a small bump or a devastating fire, damage to your boat can be stressful. Minimise worry by making sure you tick all the boxes when it comes to making a boat insurance claim…

  • Notify your marine insurance company immediately, contacting the police if necessary.
  • Document what happened and the damage as quickly as possible. Write notes and if you can, take photos and videos, alongside statements from any witnesses.
  • Some insurers may ask for estimates or quotes for replacement or repair work. Contact Mylor’s Marine Team to put this together for you.
  • Your insurance company will usually instruct a Yacht Surveryor. At Mylor we have an on-site surveyor, and are well known by others in the area.
  • The surveryor report will give your insurer everything they need to process your claim so you can action the boat accident repair work.

Insurance Repair Work at Mylor

When fire ripped through the engine room of pilot boat ‘Arrow’, it took the team seven month’s intensive work to repair the damage. Take a look at our case study to find out how we were able to get her back on the water on schedule and on budget.

In March 2014, Sally-Anne and Jonathan Dean’s beloved Nimbus 320 Coupe Motorboat ‘Baja’ had caught fire. Although initially advised to start looking for a new boat, such was the extent of the damage, the team at Mylor were able to return her to her former glory.

From composite and gel coat repairs, to cracked keel fixes, complete interior refits, hull rebuilds and everything else in between, every insurance repair receives the same outstanding level of care and quality from the Marine Team.
